A message about RISE from our Chairman of the Board

“We appreciate your visit to the RISE website and hope that you find information that will be valuable to you as a professor, K-12 educator, parent, or donor. Our mission to improve literacy and prepare pre-service teachers has never been more important.

Reading is consistently ranked as the most important academic skill and a key factor in reaching potential throughout a person's lifetime. Yet, only about one-third of U.S. 4th graders have demonstrated reading proficiency and 32 million Americans are functionally illiterate. Research shows that many students struggle with reading due to dyslexia or the lack of explicit reading instruction, while the majority of pre-service teachers report that they have received little or no training in the science of reading.

The RISE Institute for Literacy is committed to providing the resources that support teacher training programs, structured literacy intervention for struggling child and adult readers, and information for empowering parents.

Thank you for visiting our website, we hope you will return often.“
